Dermaworks Glycolic Acid Face Wash isn’t the ordinary AHA exfoliator that you might expect! Our specially formulated cleanser has been developed to deliver multiple benefits to your skin:

DEEP CLEANSING – Breaks down and removes dead skin cells, oil, dirt and other impurities which cause spots, blackheads, acne and dull skin

SKIN SMOOTHING - Stimulates healthy skin cell turnover, revealing bright, youthful and radiant looking skin

PIGMENTATION TREATMENT – Helps to reduce the appearance of dark spots, scars and blemishes to even out skin tone

AGE DEFYING – Effective anti-aging and anti-wrinkle. Stimulates collagen production and boosts hydration for deep moisture retention to keep skin firm, plumped and supple

SKIN PREPARATION – Glow removes dead skin and unclogs blocked pores, making your favourite skincare products more easily absorbed and more effective

Glow is expertly formulated to gently purge your skin of dead cells, excess oil, dirt and other impurities that block pores and encourage bacteria which can lead to breakouts. Glow combats spots, blackheads, whiteheads and pimples and is an effective acne treatment.

Gently massage 2-3 pumps of foam into dry skin avoiding the eye area. If you are new to glycolic acid, use 2-3 times per week and leave on the skin for 30 seconds, gradually increasing frequency to once per day for up to 90 seconds. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and gently pat skin dry.

After washing with Glow, we highly recommend applying our Retinol (night) serum or Vitamin C (day) serum, plus our hyaluronic acid serum to boost hydration. Why not also give your skin a super-boost with our advanced daily moisturiser?

What is glycolic acid?

Glycolic acid is a alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane. It is one of the most well-known and widely used alpha-hydroxy acids in the skincare industry. Glycolic acid has the smallest sized molecules of all the AHAs, meaning that it can easily penetrate the skin. This allows glycolic acid to exfoliate the skin more effectively than other AHAs.

What does it do?

Glycolic acid is a deep cleansing ingredient that helps to break down the ‘glue’ that holds skin cells together, making it easy to wash away dead skin cells and rid the pores of excess oil, bacteria and other impurities. The deep cleansing and unclogging effect helps to minimise acne breakouts, blackheads and whiteheads whilst revealing incredibly smooth, fresh and healthy skin.

Glycolic acid also stimulates healthy collagen and helps to draw moisture to skin cells. This also makes it a potent anti-aging ingredient. As you age, collagen production naturally slows down. Collagen is also damaged by sun exposure, leading to sagging and wrinkled skin. Glycolic acid helps to increase skin’s firmness, plumpness, and elasticity.

Whatever your age, make Glow an essential part of your skincare routine!

Is it good for all skin types?

Glycolic Acid is a fantastic skincare ingredient for all skin types, however, those with particularly sensitive skin should slowly acclimatise their skin by gradually increasing use and exposure. It’s a good idea to do a patch test on your forehead (where skin is thicker) before continuing with a full treatment.

Can I be too young or too old to use it?

No, definitely not! If you are young and lucky enough not to have wrinkles, incorporating glycolic acid into your skincare routine is a great way keep your skin looking radiant and invigorated! Long term, by stimulating healthy collagen, it will help to keep your skin firm yet supple, delaying the onset of lines, wrinkles and sagging.

Mature skin can also benefit greatly from glycolic acid. By cleansing the skin of old, dead cells, excess oil and other impurities, Glow helps to revive the vitality of your skin and, by building new collagen to support your skin, helps restore firmness and suppleness, leaving your skin looking fresh and youthful.

When and how often should I use it?

You can use Glow every night as part of your bedtime routine, although those with sensitive skin should slowly build up frequency from once or twice per week. Start by leaving on the skin for 30 seconds before rinsing off, eventually increasing to 90 seconds or more. Your skin will let you know the optimum frequency/exposure once you have been using the product for a while.

Is glycolic acid safe?

Whilst ‘acid’ may sound a little scary, glycolic acid is considered the holy grail of natural exfoliating and cleansing ingredients and has been used in skincare products for many years. Glow contains an optimum concentration of 8% glycolic acid, making it effective yet gentle. If you have any questions about Glow, please don’t hesitate to get in touch (link).

Are there any side-effects?

Most people will experience no side-effects at all, however, it is perfectly natural and normal to experience tingling, redness or mild irritation. The exfoliating effect and removal of dead skin cells reveals fresh, live skin which can be temporarily sensitive. If you are new to glycolic acid, we recommend starting slowly and allowing your skin to build a tolerance. In the long term, glycolic acid will deliver impressive anti-aging benefits, leaving your skin looking and feeling fresh and smooth.

To help minimise any possible sensitivity, we highly recommend applying an SPF moisturiser or sunscreen the morning after use.

Why does my skin look worse?

If your skin is prone to spots, blackheads or acne, it is possible that your skin may look worse for the first week or so. Don’t worry! This is absolutely normal. Glow isn’t making your skin worse, it is simply accelerating the process of bringing spots and blackheads to the surface. Once these have cleared, you will see a vast improvement in the look and feel of your skin!

How long will it take to see the benefits?

It depends on your skin. Most people notice that their skin feels much smoother after the first application, but your skin will look visibly more vibrant and refreshed after several weeks of use. Long term use will keep your skin looking smooth, bright and youthfully radiant! If you are prone to breakouts, it may take some time to clear your skin of spots before you start to see the benefits but, you should expect to see a significant improvement within the first few weeks.
