  • Dermaworks’ high strength 2.5% Retinol Serum is a night serum. Retinol is photosensitive, meaning that sunlight impairs its effectiveness. Retinol does all its work while you are asleep, so we recommend applying to a clean, make-up free face before going to bed.

After cleansing, apply a few drops in to your palm and gently massage into the face, neck, décolletage and hands. Job done!

Retinol increases cell turnover. This may initially result in some flaking skin and/or slight redness. This is perfectly normal and should quickly return to normal after a few days.

If you are new to retinol and you find that your skin is a little sensitive, simply reduce the frequency of treatment to every two or three nights, gradually increasing to every night, once your skin has adjusted.

For best results, allow the serum to absorb then apply Dermaworks' Hyaluronic Acid Serum followed by your favourite moisturiser.

  • Our products are safe for all skin types, even the most sensitive, but we recommend you slowly build a regimen to ensure a positive reaction to retinol. We advise against using retinol on sore or broken skin.

  • NOW and until you’re 150! It’s never too early, nor too late to start using retinol. Treat your skin to retinol, every day and forever – it will love you for it!

  • Here are some key skincare products that can be used alongside a retinol serum:

Cleanser: Begin your skincare routine with a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. Look for a cleanser that doesn't strip the skin of its natural oils and maintains the skin's moisture balance. Avoid harsh exfoliants or abrasive scrubs that may cause additional irritation when used with retinol.

Moisturiser: Retinol can sometimes cause dryness and skin sensitivity, so it's crucial to follow up with a moisturiser to replenish hydration and maintain a healthy skin barrier. Look for a moisturiser that is suitable for your skin type and provides adequate moisture without clogging pores.

Sunscreen: Sun protection is essential when using retinol because retinol increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. Ensure you apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher during the day, even if you're not spending much time outdoors. This will help protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and prevent potential sun damage.

Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid can be used alongside retinol to enhance hydration. As retinol can cause dryness, hyaluronic acid's ability to attract and retain moisture will help counterbalance that effect, keeping the skin plump and hydrated.

Vitamin C: Incorporating a vitamin C serum into your routine alongside retinol can provide additional antioxidant benefits. Vitamin C helps protect the skin from free radicals, brightens the complexion, and supports collagen production. Use vitamin C in the morning, as its antioxidant properties are particularly beneficial during the day.

Gentle Exfoliants: Retinol itself is an exfoliant, so it's generally advisable to avoid using additional harsh exfoliants, such as physical scrubs or strong chemical exfoliants, while using retinol. However, mild exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) can be used sparingly and at separate times from retinol to avoid over-exfoliating the skin.

  • Yes, retinol can be effective in treating acne. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and belongs to a class of compounds known as retinoids. It is commonly used in skincare products for its ability to promote cell turnover, prevent the formation of comedones (clogged pores), and reduce inflammation. These properties make retinol a valuable component in the treatment of acne.

Here's how retinol can help with acne:

Promoting Cell Turnover: Retinol speeds up the natural exfoliation process of the skin, helping to remove dead skin cells that can contribute to clogged pores and acne.

Preventing Comedone Formation: Retinol helps prevent the formation of comedones, which are the primary lesions in acne. By reducing the formation of these clogged pores, retinol can help prevent the development of new acne lesions.

Anti-inflammatory Effects: Retinol has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and swelling associated with acne lesions.

Brilliant!

I don't normally write reviews but both the product and customer service are amazing. I wasn't sure what I needed and contacted the company. They came back to me within a couple of hours with a thoughtful (not copy and paste) reply recommending this serum (one of their cheapest products) and it does exactly what they said it would do. Yop marks all round!
